Why we sterilise everything — and what to ask anywhere you go

A first-time visitor's guide to hygiene questions worth asking — and the answers we want everyone to expect.

Sterilisation pouches being opened at the chair

We sterilise every metal tool between guests, and we use single-use files and buffers on the nail plate. The pouch is opened in front of you. That part isn't optional — but knowing what to ask anywhere else you go is the better long-term gift.

What "sterilised" actually means.

Sterilisation isn't the same as "cleaned". Cleaned means visible debris removed. Sterilised means an autoclave at 121°C and pressure for the required cycle. Tools come out of the autoclave in a sealed pouch and stay sealed until they're opened at the chair — in front of the person who's about to be touched by them. If you don't see the pouch opened, ask.

What to ask anywhere.

Three questions cover most of it: "Are these tools sterilised between guests?", "Can I see the pouch opened?", and "What do you do with files and buffers?". A studio that's proud of its standards will answer happily.
